Hij wordt geopereerd en er volgen chemotherapie en bestraling: het lijkt een eindeloze nachtmerrie. Maar al een paar dagen na de diagnose begint Christoph Schlingensief te praten. Hij voert gesprekken met zichzelf, met vrienden, met zijn overleden vader en met God. Soms woedend en opstandig, soms verdrietig en wanhopig, maar altijd met ontroerende poëzie en warmte benadert hij de vragen waar zijn ziekte hem mee confronteert. Wie was je? Wat kun je nog worden? Hoe kun je blijven werken hoewel de wereld te snel voor je geworden is? Hoe leer je de ziekte te aanvaarden? Hoe kun je doodgaan mocht het er slecht voor komen te staan? En waar is God eigenlijk? Met zijn bewogen dagboek laat Christoph Schlingensief ons deelhebben aan zijn indringende zoektocht naar zichzelf, naar God en naar de liefde voor het leven. Christoph Schlingensief (1960-2010) studeerde filologie, filosofie en kunstgeschiedenis in München. Hij werd bij het grote publiek bekend met de Deutschlandtrilogie (1989-1992): 100 Jahre Adolf Hitler, Das deutsche Kettensägenmassaker en Terror 2000, en verder met African Twintowers. In de jaren negentig werd hij vaste regisseur bij de Berlijnse Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. Voor de Bayreuther Festspiele in 2004 ensceneerde hij zijn eerste opera, Parsifal. Daarnaast concentreerde hij zich steeds meer op de beeldende kunst. Eind augustus 2010 overleed Christoph Schlingensief aan longkanker
