In December 1989, a popular rebellion in Romania overthrew the government and executed dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu and his wife Elena. After word of demonstrations in the city of Timișoara reached Bucharest-via the VOA and Radio Free Europe, demonstrators in Bucharest determined that television and video would play an important part in the success of the developing revolution, and occupied the studios of Televisiunea Romănâ, broadcasting continuously for 120 hours. Using footage taken by amateur videographers, network camera operators, and the broadcasts demonstrators aired as the revolution unfolded, the filmmakers present a chronology of those events as captured, aired, and seen by the participants themselves

Harun Farocki is one of Germany's most respected filmmakers, artists and writers. This first major UK retrospective of his films includes screenings of Videograms of a Revolution, Farocki's iconic collaboration with Andrei Ujica concerning the 1989 Romanian revolution, and and five British premieres, including the award winning Respite, which revisits footage of Westerbork, the Dutch transit camp, filmed in May 1944, and A Day In the Life of A Consumer, an epic portrait of consumer society constructed entirely from advertisements. The season will also include presentations by Georges Didi-Huberman on 13 November and The Otolith Group on 27 November. Curated by Stuart Comer, Antje Ehmann and The Otolith Group. With support from Goethe-Institut London, in collaboration with Art Monthly. Presented in conjunction with Against What? "In Indoctrination Farocki recorded a five-day seminar designed to teach management executives how to better present themselves using basic rules of dialectics and rhetoric. Throughout the seminar, a group of young professionals learn verbal skills so they can 'sell themselves' better; then they are trained in body language, posture, and facial expression. Using no titles, talking heads, narration, or other conventions of documentary, Farocki manages to expose how big business uses psychology and principles of rhetoric to sell ideas and products. The result is a window into the secret world of corporate behavior, marketing manipulation, and ultimately modern capitalism"--Container

Die Bewerbung The interview ( Visual )
5 editions published between 1997 and 2009 in German and English and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Documentary about German training classes for job interviewing. The director notes, "In the summer of 1996, we filmed application training courses in which one learns how to apply for a job. School-leavers, university graduates, people who have been retrained, the long-term unemployed, recovered drug addicts, and mid-level managers -- all of them are supposed to learn how to market and sell themselves, a skill to which the term 'self-management' is applied. The self is perhaps nothing more than a metaphysical hook from which to hang a social identity."
