The good listener : Helen Bamber, a life against cruelty by Neil Belton( Book )

20 editions published between 1998 and 2012 in English and Italian and held by 628 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

So began Bamber's brave devotion to the grim and dangerous task of undoing the work of the torturer - culminating, after her participation as a central force in Amnesty International, in her establishment in England of the Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture. Because Bamber's uncanny openness to others has been one of her great skills, The Good Listener is rendered even more powerful by the stories of the people she has helped, stories that become unforgettable records of meaningless human suffering
A game with sharpened knives by Neil Belton( Book )

8 editions published between 2005 and 2007 in English and German and held by 182 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1938, an Austrian physicist was saved from disgrace and danger by a revolutionary whose own sentence of execution had been commuted more than twenty years earlier. The physicist was Erwin Schrodinger, winner of the Nobel Prize in 1933, who had been forced to flee after the Nazis entered Austria. The revolutionary was the Irish leader Eamon de Valera. In 1941, murder is in the air, and on the sea beyond the mouth of the river Liffey. German bombs are dropping, accidentally it is alleged, on Dublin. Ireland is a country not truly at peace, either with Germany, or with its neighbour across the Irish Sea, or indeed with itself. Erwin Schrodinger, cosmopolitan intellectual and emotional enigma, is living in cramped exile in the village of Clontarf on the outskirts of Dublin, with his wife, his lover and their child. In Neil Belton's novel, the author of a beautiful equation cannot impose order on his own life, and he is haunted by his past and by mysterious threats in the present
