Biomedizinische Eingriffe am Menschen ein Stufenmodell zur ethischen Bewertung von Gen- und Zelltherapie ( )
5 editions published in 2009 in German and held by 598 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Between pathogenicity and commensalism by Ulrich Dobrindt ( )
5 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 305 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Microbes colonize nearly every biotic and abiotic niche on our planet. This also includes our human body, which is densely populated with microbes, the majority of which interact with us in a commensal, sometimes even mutualistic, relationship. Only a minority of our microbiota are pathogenic organisms with the ability to cause infection. This book covers various aspects of the interplay between commensal and pathogenic bacteria with their hosts. The chapters summarize recent findings on the geno- and phenotypic traits of opportunistic bacterial pathogens, such as Escherichia coli, staphylococci or Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as the impact of commensal and probiotic bacteria on intestinal physiology and health. The differential interaction of pathogenic, commensal and probiotic bacteria with their host is reviewed from both the bacterial and the host's perspective to round out this compilation of articles on the differences and similarities of pathogenic and commensal microorganisms
Pathogenomics : genome analysis of pathogenic microbes by Jörg Hacker ( Book )
10 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 283 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The first book on this young, highly dynamic, and expanding field. This comprehensive, interdisciplinary text focuses on those pathogenic bacteria that are of high scientific and public health interest, yet which also display great potential for the development of new diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic procedures. The authors cover all aspects of pathogenomics, including methods, genomics and applications. In addition, the ongoing development of genome, transcriptome, proteome and bioinformatic analyses of pathogenic microorganisms and their host interactions makes for a comprehensive in
Genome plasticity and infectious diseases ( )
5 editions published between 2011 and 2012 in English and held by 281 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Comprehensive examination of the current understanding of pathogen adaptation and microevolution. Introduces the rapidly evolving field of genome plasticity, presents the latest research findings, and explores the relevance of these findings to infection and infection control. Compiles and analyzes current investigations on the genome fluidity of pathogenic microbes. Explores bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites from the aspect of host genome plasticity and its impact on infection
Pathogenicity islands and the evolution of pathogenic microbes by Jörg Hacker ( Book )
6 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 238 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
It has been known for a number of years that not only pathogenicity islands but also plasmids and bacteriophages are able to carry genes whose products are involved in pathogenic processes. Accordingly, such elements and their products play an important role in pathogenesis due to the intestinal E. coli as well to Shigellae. Another interesting aspect which is reflected in different articles is that genomes evolve by acquisition of new pieces of DNA following gene transfer, but also by genome reduction. Different mechanisms include the deletion of sequences or the elimination of functions by the accumulation of point mutations or rearrangements

Bacterial Invasion into Eukaryotic Cells Subcellular Biochemistry by Tobias A Oelschlaeger ( )
2 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This latest volume in the excellent Subcellular Biochemistry series is the first attempt to give an in-depth overview of the field of bacterial cell invasion. The current knowledge about all well-studied bacteria with the ability to invade eukaryotic cells is brought together, including bacteria pathogenic to humans and animals as well as the symbiotic rhizobia. Several chapters also deal with new approaches and applications regarding invasive bacteria. The book, which includes contributions from worldwide experts, discusses bacterial invasion ability within the context of bacteria-host cell interaction with the main focus on pathogenicity
