Letter is probably reproduced from an account printed in the "Connecticut Gazette" by Colonel Samuel Green, August 17, 1814, which he apparently printed from memory. Captain Hardy threatens to destroy the town if Mrs. Stewart and her children are not sent aboard his ship. Note at foot of page says that F. H. Eldridge of the U.S. Navy received this letter from Mrs. [Comey?], a granddaughter of James and Elizabeth Stewart, at Nice, France, in 1912
