Software configuration management using Vesta by Allan Heydon( Book )

11 editions published between 2006 and 2011 in English and held by 100 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book presents a comprehensive survey of the Vesta system for software configuration management (SCM). Vesta, unlike other SCM systems, is specifically designed to handle very large software projects comprising tens of millions of lines of code and beyond. Researchers in the field of software engineering and specialists in the construction of software development tools will especially benefit from this work, but it will also appeal to those responsible for designing and deploying configuration management solutions for large software systems. Three important but hard-to-achieve properties lie at the heart of Vesta's unique approach to software configuration management: Every build is repeatable Every build is incremental Every build is consistent To realize these properties in a practical SCM system, Vesta provides a novel repository to store the versions of the files that make up an evolving software system and a flexible language for writing modular configuration descriptions that define how the system is put together. This book explains in depth these facilities and the suite of tools that supports them, together with a methodology for applying them in practice. Readers who seek more information about Vesta may download the entire system as well as other publications, reference documents, and user documentation from the Vesta home page at http://www.vestasys.org

Miró : visual specification of security by Allan Heydon( Book )

5 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "Miró is a set of languages and tools that support visual specification of file system security. We describe two visual languages: the instance language which allows specification of file system access, and the constraint language which allows specification of security policies. We present the syntax and semantics of these languages, and discuss some novel algorithms that efficiently check for properties, e.g., ambiguity, of instance pictures. We also describe the implementation of our tools and give examples of how the languages can be applied to real security specification problems."
An introduction to circuit complexity and a guide to Håstad's proof by Allan Heydon( Book )

4 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "This report provides a complete exposition of the main proof in Johan Håstad's thesis [Hås87]. The result gives a lower bound on the size of certain Boolean circuits computing the PARITY function, and it implies that [formula]. Every effort has been made to make the proof understandable for someone with no background in the area of theoretical circuit complexity. To that end, the report begins by introducing the basic definitions and classes of the field. The proof is then motivated by a section explaining why circuits are of interest to theoretical computer scientists. Before stating and proving Håstad's result, some preliminary concepts are presented

Miró tools by Allan Heydon( Book )

3 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "Miró provides a visual way to specify security configurations. It consists of two visual specification languages, the instance language and the constraint language. This paper describes the current Miró tool support. What makes some of these tools particularly novel are the non-trivial algoritms implemented to check for properties such as ambiguity. What makes the overall design of our Miró environment particularly interesting and useful for prototyping is the loosely-coupled way in which the individual tools interact."

Processing visual specifications of file system security by Allan Heydon( Book )

2 editions published between 1991 and 1992 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Our thesis is that visual languages can be practical and useful, even on a large scale, if they are targeted to sufficiently restricted domains of interest. We focus on two different aspects of the security domain. First, we use the instance language to specify security configurations, that is, fixed access relationships between users and files on a file system. Since these specifications can be both read and written, they give users the ability to determine the access rights granted on their files and to modify those rights. Second, we use the constraint language to specify security policies, each of which determines a (possibly infinite) set of legal configurations
