Applying the design science paradigm to create a conceptual data warehouse design methodology by Michael V Ekedahl( Book )

The Data Warehouse (DW) is widely adopted as a data storage method to make fact-based decisions using data acquired from operational data stores and external data sources. The DW contains consistent, subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant, non-volatile data. Several conceptual DW design models and methodologies have been proposed, but to date, none have been widely adopted. These conceptual DW design models are intended for use by technical professionals but their applicability to subject-based professionals is limited because of the language used to represent the artifact (UML, ERs, etc.). In addition, the current conceptual DW design models do not fully address the goals of subject-based professionals, which differ from the goals of technology professionals. To better address the needs and goals of subject-based professionals, we propose a model and methodology by which subject-based and technical-based professionals can apply an iterative methodology in the conceptual design of the DW. This model and methodology is developed using a design science methodology and is evaluated using design science and software design quality principles
