Six dynamic tales of modern Africa by women filmmakers. The aim of the films is to broaden the way in which African life is perceived. The six directors are from Burkino Faso, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia and Zimbabwe. Each story will cross language and regional barriers from the dry Sahelian villages of Burkina Faso through the rich Arab culture of Tunisia heading west to the vast spaces of Namibia and south to the urban and often violent sprawl of South Africa. Although presenting different stories sometimes comic, sometimes tragic , the common thread of the collection will be the understanding of what it means to be a woman in Africa. Local music is used for the films providing roots and context. See: http://zimmedia.com/mama-africa-2002/
