After nine months in a treatment center, Summit Quest Academy, Joseph and Jonathan Foster are returned to their mother's house where they initially do well. After staff from the Academy have left the home, their mother returns to her former behavior of unreasonable demands, continuous verbal abuse and lack of positive encouragement. Eventually the twins behavior begins to deteriorate. When it becomes clear to local officials that the boys are experiencing medical and emotional neglect, they are removed from the home and the mother is confronted with the results of her own behavior
