Relax : interiors for human wellness( Book )

6 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 188 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Wellness and body care are gaining importance - and not only among the rich and famous. In today's fast-paced world, people welcome a place to chill out, to release stress, to recharge. A huge number of wellness centres and related facilities continue to appear in response to this popular demand. Thirty-two of the hottest designs are showcased in Relax. The book is divided into three sections: Spas, Salons and Gyms. Each project featured has been selected for its aesthetic qualities and for the designer's innovative approach to health and wellbeing. Relax presents work by well-established names such as Mario Botta, Steven Holl and Karim Rashid, while also introducing younger talent, perhaps less well known but definitely worth watching. All projects are accompanied by high-quality photography, in-depth essays, floor plans, project details and contact information. Each section ends with one beautifully designed but unrealized project, illustrated with renderings. Enjoy viewing interiors whose superb design gives a vigorous boost to human wellness."--Page 4 of cover

12 editions published between 2004 and 2005 in 4 languages and held by 158 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Exploring computer graphics in the use of two- and three-dimensional decoration is the aim of this project by designer Karim Rashid. Divided into five parts by theme (Symbolik, Ikonik, Graphik, Optikal, and Infostethik), Digipop showcases Rashid's colorful, geometrical patterns both as simple designs and as applied to three-dimensional objects such as clothing, figures, and abstract shapes. Created over the last ten years for architectural products, objects, art shows, and gallery and museum installations, these designs, graphics, and icons are meant, says Rashid, "to suggest, inspire, consider, criticize, document, represent, symbolize and energize the worlds of the decorative, from objects to fashion, textile, and space."

Karim Rashid is one of the most well-known international designers, and his work is known for being innovative, forward-looking, and strikingly relevant. From furniture to fashion to products for hip brands like Umbra and Method, Karim's colorful projects have burst through the design community and into the mainstream. Inspired by his view that all design is a "rigorous beautification of our built environments," Karim uses unexpected shapes and colors and unusual materials to create objects and environments that are at the forefront of design innovation. Karim is an equally prolific interior designer, with a vast and diverse repertoire of installations and built work, including luxury hotels (Athens' Semiramis), restaurants (Morimoto in Philadelphia; Nooch noodle bars in Singapore and NYC), a subway station in Naples, custom home interiors, and installations at sites around the world. KarimSpace showcases forty projects in a dozen countries (many new or recently opened), showing how Karim applies his signature aesthetic to different environments. The book will include an essay and an overview of each project by Karim, as well as images and a complete project index
