Memorial in honor of Calvin Chapin (1763-1851), pastor of the South Congregational Church in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a direct descendant in the fifth generation of Samuel Chapin, who immigrated from England or Wales to New England. His parents were Edward Chapin and Eunice Colton, and he was a veteran of a Revolutionary War militia company. He graduated from Yale, and married Jerusha Edwards, the daughter of Jonathan Edwards

William Parker came from England in 1633 and settled in Hartford and later, Saybrook, Connecticut. He married (1) Margery in 1636 and (2) Elizabeth Pratt (widow of William Pratt) in 1682. He died at Saybrook in 1686. Daniel Pond, son of Robert of Dorchester who arrived in America in 1630, was in Dedham, Massachusetts in 1652. He married Abigail Shepherd of Cambridge, Massachusetts and they had thirteen children. Mary Peck (b. 1772) was the daughter of Titus and Rebecca Peck. She was born in Woodbridge, Connecticut and married James Parker in 1790 in Cornwall, Vermont. James was the great-great grandson of the aforementioned William Parker. The descendants of these families that appear in the book all lived in New England except for an occasional cousin who went to California or Canada
