Wie die anderen Intellektuellen ist er republikanischer Gesinnung; seine Schwester kann er nur heimlich besuchen, weil deren Mann für die Franco-Administration arbeitet. Geld für eine Wohnung hat er keines, so schläft er im Bordell - wenn dort ein Zimmer frei ist. Wohl oder über ist das auch der einzige Ort, an dem er sich mit seiner Geliebten treffen kann ... DER BIENENKORB zeichnet ein Bild des frankistischen Spaniens während des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Der Bürgerkrieg liegt nur wenige Jahre zurück, Repressionen gegen Republikaner sind an der Tagesordnung.
