Kalte Rinden - seltene Erden : die Landschaft in der Gegenwartskunst - 12 Positionen = Cold crusts - rare earths : the landscape in contemporary art - 12 positions( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in German and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Landscape has been at ease as a subject in its own right in European art since the 18th century. 'Kalte Rinden - Seltene Erden' (Cold Crusts - Rare Earths) now brings together twelve positions, which take as their theme the landscape in the contemporary art practice of the 21st century. In this overview, one thing quickly becomes clear in the various artistic media - painting, photography, video, installation - and the very different stylistic methods: as visual content, as a signifier and as an object of perception, the landscape is far removed from an elevated interpretation of reality. The artistic and art-historical updating of an old genre impresses in the constant oscillation between image and medium.0Exhibition: Stadtgalerie Kiel, Germany (6.7.-2.9.2012) / Märkisches Museum Witten, Germany (14.9.-4.11.2012) / Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany (18.1.-1.4.2013). 0

David Claerbout : the time that remains by David Claerbout( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Although trained as a painter and draughtsman, David Claerbout (1969) has been taking Belgium and the world by storm with his videos. He works, in his own words, hard but slowly, and he likes to test the endurance of his audience. His films may be as long as 13 hours, he undermines the classic cinema, and teaches us to look in a new way that he calls 'observing'. Claerbout composes his films in his own studio, where he turns thousands of stills and scans into slowly moving films. He expect his public not to be in a hurry and to be prepared to take the time to experience his images. In this first catalogue of his oeuvre, his film and video projects are subjected to serious analysis on the basis of production photos, design sketches and pictures of installations. This offers an exciting point of entry into the method, artistic programme and aesthetic development of the artist
