Dopo i tre anni di galera Yvon è una persona differente: corroso da un astio profondo, uccide i gestori di un albergo per poterli rapinare dei pochi franchi che possiedono, poi inizia a girovagare in cerca di denaro. Nel suo vagabondare si imbatte in una anziana vedova che lo ospita in casa pur sapendo il crimine che l'uomo ha commesso. L'anziana donna tratta Yvon con umanità e compassione, ma la sete di denaro dell'uomo è ormai insaziabile: cercando alacremente dei soldi compie una strage all'interno dell'abitazione della sua ospite, uccidendo a colpi di accetta tutti i congiunti della vecchia Dopo questa strage, Yvon si consegna volontariamente alla giustizia
