THE PRESS OF FOREIGN ORIGIN, INTRODUCED INTO MOROCCO DURING THE LAST CENTRUY BY EUROPEANS, HAS BEEN STEADILY GROWING - TODAY THERE ARE ABOUT 100 DAILIES AND 1500 PERIODICALS OF VARIOUS NATIONAL ORIGINS. THE CIRCULATION AND ACTION OF THIS FOREIGN PRESS HAS PROVOKED A NEGATIVE REACTION AMONGST CERTAIN POLITICAL PARTIES AS WELL AS IN THE NATIONAL PRESS. THE LATTER HAS NOT HESITATED IN DECRYING THE ROLE OF CERTAIN SIGNIFICANT FOREIGN TITLES AND ASKING FOR GOVERNMENTAL INTERVENTION. THEY HAVE ALSO ACCUSED THE MOROCCAN ORGANISATION FOR THE PRESS, WHICH HAS GIVEN CRISE TO SERIOUS POLITICAL CONFLICTS. IN TRYING TO ANALYSE THESE CRISES, OUR STUDY HAS TRACED THE HISTORICAL EVOLUTION OF THE PRESS IN A COUNTRY LIKE MOROCCO. IN ORDER TO DEFINE THE SOCIO-POLITICAL STAKES AND CONSEQUENCES OF THIS PHENOMENON, THE STUDY ATTEMPS TO CIRCUMSCRIBE THE CONJUNCTURAL DETERMINANTS OF THE INTRODUCTION OF THE FOREIGN PRESS INTO MOROCCO AS ALSO THE WAY IN WHICH IT IS GOVERNED TODAY. THIS IS DONE BY TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE SPECIFIC MECHANISMS OF THE FOREIGN PRESS DURING THE DIFFERENT HISTORICAL PERIODS AND BY BRINGING TO LIGHT ITS CHANGING FORM AND ITS VARIOUS RELATIONS THROUGH THE SOCIAL AND POLITICAL EVOLUTION OF MOROCCAN SOCIETY. THE STUDY SHOWS THAT POLITICAL SENSITIVITIES AND CONSIDERATIONS HAVE HAD A SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON THE CIRCULATION OF FOREIGN PUBLICATIONS. THEIR SUPPLY IS LARGE BUT IRREGULAR. THE MORE OR LESS NEGATIVE IMAGE PROJECTED TYROUGH THE ATTITUDE OF MOROCCAN PRESS MAGNATES DOES NOT QUITE CORRESPOND TO THAT OF READERS WE QUESTIONED: THEY FIND THE FOREIGN TITLES SATISFY THEIR NEEDS FOR INFORMATION AND AMUSEMENT
