An enduring legacy : women painters of Washington, 1930-2005 by David F Martin( Book )

8 editions published between 2005 and 2009 in English and Undetermined and held by 198 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One of the state's oldest arts organizations, Women Painters of Washington was founded in 1930 with the aim of overcoming limitations faced by women artists. Over its 75-year history, the group has counted among its members talented artists of national prominence whose stories have not been widely shared, until now. From founding members' early efforts to support fellow women artists, to contemporary members' cultural exchanges and international exhibitions, David F. Martin tells the story of Women Painters of Washington. He examines members' artistic achievements and the recognition they received in the national and international art worlds. In addition, a selection of works by current WPW members demonstrates the organization's continued vitality. Abundant color plates clearly illustrate the talent and innovation of these artists

A fluid tradition : Northwest Watercolor Society--the first 75 Years by David F Martin( Book )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

During 2014-2015, Northwest Watercolor Society celebrates its 75th anniversary. The society has attracted many of the most accomplished regional watercolorists as members and exhibitors, and is one of the earliest and most successful continuing arts organizations in the history of Washington State. A Fluid Tradition: Northwest Watercolor Society...The First 75 Years--richly illustrated with color reproductions and artist biographies--reestablishes the reputations of many early society members while giving a glimpse of rare works by some of today's leading regional artists

The automatic assignment and sequencing of computations on parallel processor systems by David F Martin( )

2 editions published in 1966 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The problem of optimal a priori assignment and sequencing of computations on parallel processor systems is investigated. The problem is formulated as a mathematical program in which it is desired to minimize a defined expected cost of computation subject to (1) maintaining partial orderings between computations; (2) a feasible computation-processor correspondence; (3) system inventory constraints. The method of solution is one of successive approximation, consisting of a systematic perturbation of an initial feasible assignment and sequence, accepting or rejecting trial solutions to achieve monotonic cost reduction. Since only a limited portion of the solution space is explored, the solution is generally suboptimal. The partially-ordered set of computations is represented by a cyclic directed graph, the characterization of which requires a priori estimates of arc traversal (branching) probabilities, the expected number of times each cycle will be traversed, and the mean execution times of each computation. Each processor is characterized by an operation list and a mean execution time vector. Analytical contributions in this study include computationally efficient algorithms for vertex computational probabilities and approximate mean path length on acyclic directed graphs, and the formal transformation of a restricted class of cyclic directed graphs into temporally-equivalent acyclic graphs

Computational design of upperstage chamber, aerospike, & cooling jacket of dual-expander rocket engine by David F Martin( )

2 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

To increase the performance of the current US satellite launch capability, new rocket designs must be undertaken. One concept that has been around since the 50s but yet to be utilized on a launch platform is the aerospike, or plug nozzle. The aerospike nozzle concept demonstrates globally better performance compared to a conventional bell nozzle, since the expansion of the jet is not bounded by a wall and therefore can adjust to the environment by changing the outer jet boundary. A dual-expander aerospike nozzle (DEAN) rocket concept would exceed the Integrated High Payoff Rocket Propulsion Technology initiative (IHPRPT) phase three goals. This document covers the design of the chamber and nozzle of the DEAN. The validation of the design of the DEAN are based on the model in Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS (tm)), added with the nozzle design from Two-Dimensional Kinematics (TDK 04 (tm)). The result is a rocket engine that produces 57,231 lbf (254.5 kN) of thrust at an I(sp) of 472 s. Additionally, the oxygen wall is made of silicon carbide, with a melting point of 5580 R (3100 K), and has a maximum temperature at the throat of 1625 R (902 K). The hydrogen side is made of copper, with a melting point of 2444 R (1358 K), and has a maximum wall temperature of 1224 R (680 K) at the throat. Based on these result, future investigation into this design is merited since it has the potential to save $19 million in the cost to launch a satellite. NPSS proved to be a powerful tool in the development of rocket engines. TDK, however, was left wanting in the area of aerospike design

A Boolean Matrix Method for the Computation of Linear Precedence Functions by D Martin( Book )

1 edition published in 1972 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A modified version of Bell's Boolean matrix method for the computation of linear precedence functions associated with a conflict-free matrix of precedence relations is given. This new algorithm not only detects when the precedence functions do not exist, but also provides an indication of why they do not exist, so that corrective action can be taken is possible. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of precedence functions are given. The use of Boolean matrices to prove the existence of precedence functions associated with classes of conflict-free grammars is illustrated through an example. (Author)
