Madonna of the Seven Moons. A lurid tale of sex and psychosis is among the wildest of the Gainsborough melodramas. Set in Italy, it begins as a comparatively sedate tale about a respectable, convent-raises woman who is haunted by the memory of being raped as a teenager. But when her grown daughter returns from school, her life begins to unravel in monumentally surprising ways
The Manxman by Alfred Hitchcock( Visual )

9 editions published between 1928 and 2009 in 4 languages and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hitchcock's last silent film (Blackmail was released in silent and sound versions) is a triangle melodrama involving two friends, one a fisherman the other a lawyer, in love with the same woman. Hitchcock's almost total dismissal of the film is unjustified. The mixing of the theme of ambition versus love with that of the obligations of friendship foreshadows the transference-of-guilt theme more fully developed in later Hitchcock films. The fisherman is left sad and bemused carrying the burden of his friend's betrayal of trust. Characteristically, the Isle of Man setting is not so much a backdrop as an abstract setting for the drama

Rich and strange( Visual )

8 editions published between 1931 and 2007 in English and Italian and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

After coming into a small inheritance a suburban couple, bored with life's routine, seek a taste of the high life and excitement by going on a world cruise. One of the most experimental of Hitchcock's British films is a sad/comic reflection upon marriage and the theme of ordinary people accidentally cast into a chaos world. The title, drawn from The Tempest ("Doth suffer a sea change/Into something rich and strange"), is ironic since the exotic strangeness of their adventures changes very little

Im Handlungsaufriß wenig überzeugend, erprobt Hitchcocks zehnter Film doch souverän die Möglichkeiten der Kriminalspannung
