Erster Film der populären und - trotz mehrfachen Hauptdarsteller-Wechsels - langlebigen Serie von Actionfilmen, die seit 1962 Motive aus Romanen des Engländers Ian Fleming (1908-1964) zu einer spektakulären Genre-Mischung verarbeitet. Connery machte den vom Romanautor Ian Fleming erdachten Agenten zum Inbegriff des modernen Übermenschen: knallhart, technisch versiert und ausgestattet mit unnachahmlich weltgewandtem Charme, vor dem Feinde wie Frauen die Waffen strecken. Erstes Bond-Girl war die Schweizerin Ursula Andress. Der Trickaufwand hielt sich beim Bond-Erstling in Grenzen. Kein Wunder, betrug das Budget doch nur eine läppische Million Dollar
