8 editions published in 2013 in Italian and held by 63 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Words for pictures : seven papers on Renaissance art and criticism by Michael Baxandall( Book )

3 editions published in 2009 in Italian and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Italian Renaissance was a creative period for art criticism as well as for art itself. The early efforts to give verbal accounts of visual representations and their quality throw light not only on art during the Renaissance but also on art criticism at any time. This collection of papers by the art historian and critic Michael Baxandall represents his thinking over the past forty years on the relation between language and art. He offers seven thought-provoking pieces, three of which are new and written specifically for this book. While Baxandall focuses on works of the fifteenth century, his essays transcend this period and show with fresh insight how words match the experience of looking at paintings and sculptures."--Jacket

Della critica : compendio di sociologia dell'emancipazione by Luc Boltanski( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in Italian and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Enfants de nazis by Tania Crasnianski( Book )

Even silence has an end : my six years of captivity in the Colombian jungle by Ingrid Betancourt( Book )

2 editions published between 2010 and 2011 in Italian and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Ingrid Betancourt tells the story of her captivity in the Colombian jungle, sharing teachings of resilience, resistance, and faith. Born in Bogotá, raised in France, Betancourt at age 32 gave up a life of comfort and safety to return to Colombia to become a political leader in a country that was being slowly destroyed by terrorism, violence, fear, and hopelessness. In 2002, while a candidate in the Colombian presidential elections, she was abducted by the FARC. She spent the next six and a half years in the depths of the jungle as their prisoner. Chained day and night for much of her captivity, she succeeded in getting away several times, always to be recaptured. The facts of her story are astounding, but it is Betancourt's indomitable spirit that drives this very special account, bringing life, nuance, and profundity to the narrative.--From publisher description

Outwelling of dissolved organic carbon from salt marshes( Book )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Salt marshes are among the most productive ecosystems on earth. Tidal inundation by seawater leads to outwelling of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to the marsh creek, estuary, and ultimately the coastal ocean. Up to 90% of the exported DOC can come from fringing marsh areas. Marsh creek transects, continuous creek monitoring stations, continuous water velocity measurements, well transects established near the creek bank, modeling of marsh-creek exchange across the creek bank, incubations of sediment, water, and vegetation, chemical and isotopic compositional analysis of DOC, estimates of tidal water exchange volumes, and local meteorology all contribute to our overall understanding of salt marsh outwelling processes. We will present data from the Plum Island, MA, Neponset, MA, and Snipe Creek, FL salt marshes. In our estimation, a significant amount of DOC is exported from the marsh, but most of this labile DOC is rapidly remineralized in the creek and nearshore coastal waters. Precipitation, seasonal growth patterns, and wind events can significantly affect this carbon export and must be considered in large scale estimates of carbon outwelling from salt marshes

A novel small molecule TLR4 antagonist (IAXO-102) negatively regulates non-hematopoietic toll like receptor 4 signalling and inhibits aortic aneurysms development( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract: Objectives: The toll-like receptors (TLRs), including TLR4, have been shown to play a crucial role in vascular inflammatory diseases, such as atherosclerosis and aneurysm. The main goal of this study was to determine the potential of IAXO-102 (Innaxon, Tewkesbury), a novel small molecule TLR4 antagonist, to modulate non-hematopoietic TLR4 proinflammatory signalling and inhibit experimental abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) development. Methods: Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and Angiotensin II-induced experimental AAA development were our in vitro and in vivo models respectively. Western blotting, antibody array and ELISA approaches were used to explore the effect of IAXO-102 on TLR4 functional activity on two levels: modulation of TLR4-induced mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK) and p65 NF-kB phosphorylation and expression of TLR4 dependent proinflammatory proteins. Results: Following activation of TLR4, in vitro/in vivo data revealed that IAXO-102 inhibited MAPK and p65 NF-kB phosphorylation associated with down regulation of the expression of TLR4 and TLR4 dependent proinflammatory proteins. Furthermore, IAXO-102 decreased Angiotensin II-induced aortic expansion, rupture and incidence of AAA. Conclusions: These results demonstrate the ability of IAXO-102 to negatively regulate TLR4 signalling and to inhibit experimental AAA development, suggesting the potential therapeutic use of this TLR4 antagonist for pharmacological intervention of AAA. Highlights: IAXO-102 has a marked inhibitory effect on both aneurysm rupture and development. IAXO-102 can modulate vascular inflammation by blocking non-hematopoietic TLR4 signalling. IAXO-102 is a potential new drug for pharmacological intervention of aneurysms. Further support for TLR4 as a potential target for aneurysm treatment
Applications for sensor networks in coastal environments( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Consortium for Ocean Sensing In Near shore Environments (COSINE) has designed, developed, and implemented smart sensor networks to observe coastal erosion processes, monitor and predict bacterial water quality, and study "first flush" episodic rain events for carbon fluxes from land to ocean. COSINE brings together interdisciplinary scientists and managers from academic, industrial, governmental, and non-governmental organizations to address societal needs with inexpensive solutions. Initial proof-of-concept demonstrations have increased capacity and formed partnerships that can be applied across a range of coastal applications
