What is comprovisation? by Michael Dale( )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"I would like to begin to explore the middle ground between the poles we usually term 'composition' and 'improvisation.' . It is not my intention to separate these methodologies into their idealized forms for easier compartmentalization; rather, I would like to talk about 'comprovisation, ' a spectrum of music-creation methods that arrive at both a relatively high degree of compositional structure (through the implementation of some predetermined directive and/or notation), and a relatively high degree of performer agency, freedom, spontaneity, and flexibility (through the implementation of a space where it is not only possible, but necessary, for the performer to create and shape music to the moment of performance."--Leaf 5
