1 edition published in 2015 in French and held by 512 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In Israel there is neither civil marriage nor civil divorce. Only rabbis can legitimate a marriage or its dissolution. But this dissolution is only possible with full consent from the husband, who in the end has more power than the judges. Viviane Amsalem has been applying for divorce for three years. But her husband Elisha will not agree. His cold intransigence, Viviane's determination to fight for her freedom, and the ambiguous role of the judges shape a procedure in which tragedy vies with absurdity, and everything is brought out for judgment, apart from the initial request"--Director's Fortnight

Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem by Ronit Elkabetz( Visual )

10 editions published between 2014 and 2018 in 4 languages and held by 200 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Golden Globes Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film and an Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, this is a heart-rending portrait of a woman's struggle to overcome patriarchy to live a life of her own design.. Viviane Amsalem (Ronit Elkabetz) is seeking a divorce from her estranged husband, and finds herself effectively put on trial by Israel's powerful religious establishment. After three years, her devout husband Elisha (Simon Abkarian of Casino Royale and Persepolis) still refuses to accede. His cold intransigence, Viviane's determination, and the ambiguous role of the rabbinical judges shape a powerful courthouse drama where tragedy vies with absurdity, and everything is brought out into the open for judgment.. "Expertly written, brilliantly acted ... The beautifully modulated script, ripe with moments of liberating humor, builds to a crescendo of indignation, allowing Elkabetz several cathartic outbursts, but they're no more riveting than the actress' silences."--Jay Weissberg, Variety. "Densely rich drama, told with stringent austerity but also humor and judicious empathy ... an altogether strange but astonishing work of craftsmanship." - Leslie Felperin, The Hollywood Reporter

A history of Israeli cinema( Visual )

1 edition published in 2014 in Hebrew and held by 145 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Raphael Nadjari's extraordinary two-part documentary weaves together clips from more than 70 years of Israeli film with commentary from filmmakers, scholars and critics - including Amos Gitai, Joseph Cedar, Avi Mograbi, Yehuda Ne'eman, Menachem Golan, Moshe Ivgy, Ronit Elkabetz and Zeev Revach. Crafted for both insiders and outsiders, the film traces the evolution of the country's cinema alongside political and social history: part one spans the years 1933 to 1978, covering the overlap between the Zionist struggle to form a state and the propagandistic qualities of revolutionary cinema; part two, the shift to reality-based filmmaking in the late 70s, and the transition from the political films of the 80s to the more personal cinema of today. The most comprehensive and compelling record of the subject ever attempted, Nadjari's film reveals a cinematic national identity that is inextricably linked to the ever-changing emotional reality of the country
