"En Janvier 1957, après deux ans et trois mois de troubles qui ont ensanglanté le pays, l'armée est brusquement investie de tous les pouvoirs de maintien de l'ordre dans la zone militaire d'Alger suite à une série d'attentats meurtriers perpétrés par le FLN. Pendant neuf mois, les parachutistes de Massu et de Bigeard vont mener une lutte sans merci contre les activistes algériens. En Septembre 1957, les réseaux du FLN d'Alger sont démantelés et la ville a retrouvé la sécurité. Sécurité trompeuse puisque, après deux ans d'une accalmie obtenue au prix d'une répression féroce, les affrontements reprendront de plus belle jusqu'au triomphe absolu du FLN. En 1962, les accords d'Evian ramèneront la paix, mais scelleront le départ douloureux vers la métropole de près d'un million et demi de "Pieds Noirs".
