The art of Chopin by Gérald Caillat( Visual )

5 editions published between 2009 and 2011 in English and held by 136 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

As a meditation on the life and influence of Frédéric Chopin (1810-49) that was produced to commemorate the great Polish composer's 200th birthday, this unique program falls into two distinct halves. It begins with a traditional hour-long documentary by Gérald Caillat that studies the musical scribe's life and work; then it segues into the second half - a series of contemporary and vintage performances by world-renowned artists, who interpret excerpts from some of Chopin's most beloved compositions. These luminaries include Krystian Zimerman, Artur Rubinstein, Evgeny Kissin and Martha Argerich. Classical historian Garrick Ohlsson also turns up to reflect and pontificate on Chopin's genius. As an added bonus, this release features an August 2009 concert film where Ohlsson performs Chopin's concertos, backed by The Warsaw Philharmonic and Antoni Wit
Toscanini : In his own words( Visual )

4 editions published between 2008 and 2011 in English and held by 132 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This film is a docufiction on the great Toscanini directed by well-known film-maker Larry Weinstein who pushes the boundaries of conventional documentary storytelling by borrowing tools from fiction films, including dramatic reconstructions and historical cinematic stylings. Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957), arguably the greatest and most famous conductor in history, was paradoxically one of the most private. He never granted interviews, left diaries or journals of any kind. But during the last years of his life, his son Walter secretly recorded 150 hours of intimate conversations that Toscanini shared with friends and family who visited his home and these were used to create this film. Interwoven throughout the film are many of Toscanini's greatest musical performances
Masterclass with Julia Varady by Bruno Monsaingeon( Visual )

1 edition published in 2009 in German and held by 68 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 2003, after a career spanning nearly forty years, Julia Varady discreetly retired from the public stage. She now dedicates her time to teaching. She constantly sings in full voice during her classes, with the same intensity and generosity of spirit that made her one of the very finest lyric sopranos of our time. BONUS: The complete master class with Julia Varady. Selections from: Rossini's II barbiere di Siviglia, (Una voce poco fa) ; Ponchielli's La Gioconda, (Stella de l marinar!) ; Bizet's Carmen, (Habanera: l'amour est un oiseau rebelle) ; Massenet's Werther, (Werther! Werther) ; Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, (No.19, Aria Deh per questa istante solo), and Cosi fan tutte, (Come scoglio) ; Weber's Der Freischutz, (Wie nahte mir der Schlummer) ; Verdi's Nabucco (Oh , dischiuso e il firmamento!)
