Dave Emerson wird wegen Mordes der Prozess gemacht. Auf Grund eines Gutachtens des undurchsichtigen Irrenarztes Dr. Mangrove wird Dave jedoch als unzurechnungsfähig in dessen Anstalt eingewiese. Wenig später verhilft ihm ein Unbekannter zur Flucht. Der Wärter, der Dave bis zum elterlichen Schloss verfolgt, wird von einem unheimlichen Kapuzenmann mit blau-eiserner Hand ermordet. Inspektor Graig und Sir John von Scotland Yard treffen dort bei ihren Ermittlungen auf Daves Zwillingsbruder Richard. Schließlich findet Craig erste Hinweise auf die schreckliche Mordwaffe und schöpft den Verdacht, dass es sich bei Richard um Dave handeln könnte. Kurz darauf schlägt die "blaue Hand" erneut zu ... (Jan-Eric Loebe) Erfreulicherweise hat man sich nach den ersten beiden Fehlgriffen in Farbe nochmals auf den klassischen Wallace-Stil der früheren Jahre besonnen. Der Film beweist, dass bereits die bloße Inspiration durch eine Originalvorlage eine wesentliche Qualitätssteigerung zu bringen vermochte und der echte Wallace-Touch bei sorgfältigem Vorgehen auch in Farbe gewahrt werden konnte. Das Drehbuch hat viele neue, gute Einfälle und mit der "blauen Hand" wurde noch einmal ein wirklich unheimlicher, faszinierender Mörder kreiert. Die Szenen, in denen etwa Dave über das neblige Moor gejagt wird, wie die blaue Hand am sturmumtosten Fenster die Gardine aufschlitzt oder der Mord auf der Orgelbank stehen dem Charme der besten Schwarzweiß-Wallaces in nichts nach.
