A computer code for hydrodynamic and elastic-perfectly plastic problems is described. The model uses a second order finite difference method based upon a Eulerian formulation of the basic differential equations. The algorithm uses an individual grid for each material domain, determined by Lagrangian type boundary points which are subject to free surface and interface conditions. The only communication between domains is through their common interfaces

Considering the complex interaction of nonlinear waves with a moving boundary it is necessary to use an accurate numerical approximation to the differential equations of motion in order to obtain a solution. In this paper the authors describe a method of solution for the problem based on an Eulerian formulation with moving boundaries. The scheme to be described in later sections has been incorporated in a code called SMITE (Second order Moving Interface Two dimensional Eulerian code)

The Application of the Smite Code to the BRL-105 Shaped Charge Problem( Book )

A numerical finite difference method has been applied to the computation of a BRL-105 shaped charge. The model uses an Eulerian formulation of the defining conservation laws and these hyperbolic partial differential equations are solved by a second order accurate difference method. This method is twostep and explicit. The motion of the free surfaces, which are the important features in this problem, are explicitly computed by integrating the set of ordinary differential equations defining the trajectories of tracer particles located at all the free surfaces. Interfaces are also maintained as discontinuities during the course of the calculation in a similar manner. The method seems to be flexible, stable and efficient for the problems included in this investigation
