A computer code for hydrodynamic and elasticperfectly plastic problems is described. The model uses a second order finite difference method based upon a Eulerian formulation of the basic differential equations. The algorithm uses an individual grid for each material domain, determined by Lagrangian type boundary points which are subject to free surface and interface conditions. The only communication between domains is through their common interfaces

An examination was made of several secondorder accurate schemes for the solution of onedimensional flows containing discontinuities. Two problems of shock interactions were considered, and two generalizations of these schemes were used for the solution of the NavierStokes equations. (Author)

Combustion instability: nonlinear analysis of wave propagation in a liquid propellant rocket motor by
Samuel Z Burstein(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1962 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The phenomena of combustion instability in the liquid propellant rocket system is characterized by cyclic variations of pressure in the feed system and combustion chamber, or depending on the magnitude of the frequency, within the chamber alone. Some previous work is discussed along with present work and results

Considering the complex interaction of nonlinear waves with a moving boundary it is necessary to use an accurate numerical approximation to the differential equations of motion in order to obtain a solution. In this paper the authors describe a method of solution for the problem based on an Eulerian formulation with moving boundaries. The scheme to be described in later sections has been incorporated in a code called SMITE (Second order Moving Interface Two dimensional Eulerian code)

A Formulation of Hydrodynamic Flow with Materials that Exhibit Elastic Plastic Behavior The SMITE Code(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1974 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
This report describes a new formulation for an elasticperfectly plastic computer code. The formulation uses a second order accurate integration method for numerically solving the governing partial differential equations. The algorithm uses an individual Eulerian grid for each material domain. These domains, which may be elastic, elasticperfectly plastic, or purely hydrodynamic, are allowed to move freely through these grids communicating with each other through common interfaces; it is clear then that the boundaries of the domains are explicitly computed as part of the algorithm

The Application of the Smite Code to the BRL105 Shaped Charge Problem(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1974 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
A numerical finite difference method has been applied to the computation of a BRL105 shaped charge. The model uses an Eulerian formulation of the defining conservation laws and these hyperbolic partial differential equations are solved by a second order accurate difference method. This method is twostep and explicit. The motion of the free surfaces, which are the important features in this problem, are explicitly computed by integrating the set of ordinary differential equations defining the trajectories of tracer particles located at all the free surfaces. Interfaces are also maintained as discontinuities during the course of the calculation in a similar manner. The method seems to be flexible, stable and efficient for the problems included in this investigation
