Transverse wave propagation in a solid, elastic mass contained by an infinitely long, rigid circular-cylindrical tank( Book )

1 edition published in 1959 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Dispersion equations are derived for the propagation of transverse waves along the axis of a solid, circular cylinder contained by an infintely long, circular-cylindrical tank. The tank and core are assumed welded at their interface. At least four dispersion curves are plotted for each of the first four orders and for two different values of Poisson's ratio. It is pointed out that each dispersion curve is associated with either transverse vibrations or the thickness-shear vibrations, and mode shapes are considered on this basis. (Author)

Vibrational characteristics of solidpropellant rocket engines( Book )

1 edition published in 1959 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

An experimental program is described in which the bending and longitudinal dynamics of structures simulating solid-propellant rocket motors are being studied. The structure is considered to be a cylindrical grain of solid propellant to which is bonded a thin steel case. Vibrations of the empty steel cylinder suspended in a free-free condition are studied first. Secondly, a similar steel cylinder loaded with an inert propellant grain will be studied to determine the effect of the propellant on the vibrations of the case. Additional experiments to determine the viscoelastic properties of the propellant required for an analysis of the structure are discussed. (Author)

Vibrational characteristics of solid propellant rocket motors( Book )

1 edition published in 1959 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

A method is described for automatically surveying the mode shapes of a vibrating cylinder in both the axial and circumferential directions. A complete spectrum of modes of vibration of an empty thin-walled, circular cylinder were obtained for both breathing and beam modes at several values of internal pressure. Similar, although not as complete, data were obtained for the same cylinder having a grain of inert solid propellant bonded in its interior. Good correlation with theoretical considerations was obtained for much of these data. Damping was compared for both configurations, vibrating transversely as beams and in one of the breathing modes. Several experimental methods were developed for measuring the dynamic mechanical properties of the solid propellant. (Author)
