The film series captures each person starting from the age of six, dealing with the personal situations of the characters and filming them in dramatic situations. The videos collectively convey a social panorama over time, and reveal some universal truths about growing older, as well as give a deep view into the history of the GDR and of the reunification process with West Germany. The filming of the series took place intermittently between 1961 and 2007
