Laurent Clerc (1785-1869) ( Visual )
3 editions published between 1995 and 1996 in English and held by 65 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
(Producer) This is a historical documentary about a remarkable deaf man who brought sign language to America from France in 1815. He is known as "Father of the Deaf" for many reasons. He helped create sign language, established the first permanent school for the deaf in America, and taught the founders of almost all the other schools in America. He became first deaf person ever to appear before Congress and the President of the United States. Clerc struggled courageously to break through the barriers of silence. This is a story of how Clerc worked hard to give deaf people the education they so desperately needed, and to tell the hearing world all of the possibilities for deaf people. Finally, this story is an inspiration to all deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people everywhere
Mouth morphemes in American Sign Language ( Visual )
2 editions published in 1996 in English and Sign languages and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
For the past 20 years, the United States and Canada have witnessed a rapid growth of ASL classes being offered to adults and children. However, there is a serious void in the sign language curriculum. The missing language element is mouth morpheme or mouthing. Far too often, ASL instructors don't incorporate mouthing as an important component of their course objectives. Mouthing is an essential and active element in language used among native ASL users across the wide geographical areas. In response to the missing mouthing elements in the ASL classroom, DeBee Communications, in association with Kevin Struxness, developed the first-time ever videotape "Mouth Morphemes in American Sign Language." This hour-long video features 52 different mouthing movements along with their respective phonological meanings
