in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Album of autograph letters, letter fragments, and cut away signatures, many of which are addressed to the English portrait painter and writer Martin Archer Shee. Apparantly partially compiled by Shee's daughter, Eliza Jane, the album represents the hands of hundreds of nineteenth-century British artists, writers, politicians, and royalty, as well as a number of notable continental Europeans of the period. The bulk of the manuscripts date from the first half of the nineteenth century. The earliest manuscript is a 1531 document on vellum signed by Francis I of France; the latest is a 1903 letter from British Army Genreal Archibald Hunter, to Shee's great-grandson, also named Martin Archer Shee (1873-1935)

Photograph of a bust of Thomas Bewick by Edward Hodges Baily : right side, viewed at a moderate angle( Visual )

1 edition published in 1890 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

One of at least four different photographs published by W. & D. Downey, Photographers, of a bust of Thomas Bewick sculpted in 1825 by Edward Hodges Baily. The bust depicted is either the white marble original or a plaster copy. The Downey photographs were taken from slightly different angles, and were published in different sizes, but are otherwise very similar; each photographic print is attached to a stiff card backing. The front of each card, in addition to the photograph, carries an undated copyright statement and identifies the publisher as " W. & D. Downey, London & Newcastle." The back of each card states that W. & D. Downey are photographers by special appointment to Her Majesty the Queen and to the imperial and royal families of Europe, and depicts eleven armorial devices; the phrase "Marion, Imp. Paris" appears at the bottom
