The cheap tailor Ko-Ko was deemed Lord High Executioner under remarkable circumstances and faces a great challenge when the Mikado, Emperor of Japan, sends notice that if an execution does not take place within the month, the Town of Titipu will be dishonored and Ko-Ko himself will lose his head. The situation is complicated when Ko-Ko claims to have executed a wandering minstrel who turns out to be the Mikado's son; and to save the lives of his friends and himself, he must win the hand of the sadistic, unattractive Katisha.
