Mitten im Irgendwo, in einer Geisterstadt beginnt die Geschichte um ein heruntergekommenes altes Schwimmbad. Hier versucht Anton, für seinen blinden Vater durch Tonbänder mit Besuchergeräuschen die Illusion eines erfolgreichen Betriebes aufrecht zuhalten. Er selbst hat das Schwimmbad noch nie verlassen und träumt von einem Seefahrer-Leben. Eine Veränderung kommt in Antons Leben mit dem Besuch der jungen Kapitänstochter Eva. Sofort verliebt er sich in sie und versucht, ihre Aufmerksamkeit zu erlangen. Doch so schnell kommen die beiden nicht zu ihrem Glück. Zum einen ist da Antons eifersüchtiger, geldgieriger Bruder Gregor, der mit allen Mitteln ihre Liebe verhindern will. Und zum andern droht dem verfallenen Schwimmbad die Schließung. Also muss sich Anton gezwungenermaßen mit den schwierigen Reparaturen abmühen. Hinzu kommt noch, dass Eva hin- und hergerissen versucht, ein Teil der Antriebsmaschine, das Herzstück des Schwimmbades, für ihren Schleppkahn zu stehlen. An ein Versprechen gebunden, muss sie unbedingt zur Insel Tuvalu fahren. Ob die beiden unter diesen Umständen noch zusammenkommen, und ob Eva endlich ihre versprochene Reise unternehmen kann, bleibt fragwürdig
