Anlässlich des 66. Geburtstags des 1991 verstorbenen Sängers Freddie Mercury wurde u.a. das gemeinsam mit der spanischen Sopranistin Montserrat Caballé aufgenommene Album 'Barcelona' wieder veröffentlicht, das seit 1999 nicht mehr lieferbar war. Zur Zeit der Aufnahme, 1988, war die Kooperation eines Rockstars mit einer Operndiva noch etwas sehr Aussergewöhnliches. Einmal mehr zeigte Mercury, dass er mehr Facetten und Talente hatte als nur den exaltierten Showman auf der Rockbühne. Das Titelstück war der offizielle Song zu den Olympischen Spielen 1992 in der katalanischen Metropole und hätte von beiden bei der Eröffnung aufgeführt werden sollen. Dazu kam es aber nicht, Freddie Mercury starb wenige Monate davor. 'Barcelona' war auch eine Art Initialzündung für grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit von E-Musik und Popularmusik
