Time-dependent density functional theory by Miguel A. L Marques( )

19 editions published in 2006 in English and Undetermined and held by 601 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) is based on a set of ideas and theorems quite distinct from those governing ground-state DFT, but emphasizing similar techniques. Today, the use of TDDFT is rapidly growing in many areas of physics, chemistry and materials sciences where direct solution of the Schrödinger equation is too demanding. This is the first comprehensive, textbook-style introduction to the relevant basics and techniques
Fundamentals of time-dependent density functional theory by Miguel A. L Marques( )

13 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 398 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

There have been many significant advances in time-dependent density functional theory over recent years, both in enlightening the fundamental theoretical basis of the theory, as well as in computational algorithms and applications. This book, as successor to the highly successful volume Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (Lect. Notes Phys. 706, 2006) brings together for the first time all recent developments in a systematic and coherent way. First, a thorough pedagogical presentation of the fundamental theory is given, clarifying aspects of the original proofs and theorems, as well as presenting fresh developments that extend the theory into new realms—such as alternative proofs of the original Runge-Gross theorem, open quantum systems, and dispersion forces to name but a few. Next, all of the basic concepts are introduced sequentially and building in complexity, eventually reaching the level of open problems of interest. Contemporary applications of the theory are discussed, from real-time coupled-electron-ion dynamics, to excited-state dynamics and molecular transport. Last but not least, the authors introduce and review recent advances in computational implementation, including massively parallel architectures and graphical processing units. Special care has been taken in editing this volume as a multi-author textbook, following a coherent line of thought, and making all the relevant connections between chapters and concepts consistent throughout. As such it will prove to be the text of reference in this field, both for beginners as well as expert researchers and lecturers teaching advanced quantum mechanical methods to model complex physical systems, from molecules to nanostructures, from biocomplexes to surfaces, solids and liquids. From the reviews of LNP 706:"This is a well structured text, with a common set of notations and a single comprehensive and up-to-date list of references, rather than just a compilation of research articles. Because of its clear organization, the book can be used by novices (basic knowledge of ground-state DFT is assumed) and experienced users of TD-DFT, as well as developers in the field." (Anna I. Krylov, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Vol. 129 (21), 2007)  "This book is a treasure of knowledge and I highly recommend it. Although it is a compilation of chapters written by many different leading researchers involved in development and application of TDDFT, the contributors have taken great care to make sure the book is pedagogically sound and the chapters complement each other [...]. It is highly accessible to any graduate student of chemistry or physics with a solid grounding in many-particle quantum mechanics, wishing to understand both the fundamental theory as well as the exponentially growing number of applications. [...]  In any case, no matter what your background is, it is a must-read and an excellent reference to have on your shelf.", October 15, 2008, David Tempel (Cambridge, MA)
A primer in density functional theory by C Fiolhais( Book )

13 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 376 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Density functional theory (DFT) is by now a well-established method for tackling the quantum mechanics of many-body systems. Originally applied to compute properties of atoms and simple molecules, DFT has quickly become a work horse for more complex applications in the chemical and materials sciences. The present set of lectures, spanning the whole range from basic principles to relativistic and time-dependent extensions of the theory, is the ideal introduction for graduate students or nonspecialist researchers wishing to familiarize themselves with both the basic and most advanced techniques in this field
Spin-dynamics in strongly excited ferromagnetic systems by Kevin Krieger( )

2 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The investigation of the possible mechanisms leading to the laser induced ultrafast demagnetization in ferromagnets, as observed in various experiments, is the subject of intense research since the last two decades. In this work time-dependent density-functional theory is used to investigate one possible mechanism: spin-orbit coupling mediated spin-ips. The first part of this work gives a detailed introduction to the simulation framework and discusses the corresponding spin-dynamics analytically. In the second part, the simulation framework is applied to study the spin-dynamical response of ferromagnetic Ni and Fe. It is found that the excitation of the system leads, via the spin-orbit coupling, to a fast loss in the spin-magnetic moment in both materials. The spin-orbit coupling mediated loss in the moment is then investigated in detail for Ni, allowing us to explain, for example, why always a loss in the moment is observed

Substance P immunoreactivity in the lumbar spinal cord of the turtle Trachemys dorbigni following peripheral nerve injury by W. A Partata( )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Immunoreactive substance P was investigated in turtle lumbar spinal cord after sciatic nerve transection. In control animals immunoreactive fibers were densest in synaptic field Ia, where the longest axons invaded synaptic field III. Positive neuronal bodies were identified in the lateral column of the dorsal horn and substance P immunoreactive varicosities were observed in the ventral horn, in close relationship with presumed motoneurons. Other varicosities appeared in the lateral and anterior funiculi. After axotomy, substance P immunoreactive fibers were reduced slightly on the side of the lesion, which was located in long fibers that invaded synaptic field III and in the varicosities of the lateral and anterior funiculus. The changes were observed at 7 days after axonal injury and persisted at 15, 30, 60 and 90 days after the lesion. These findings show that turtles should be considered as a model to study the role of substance P in peripheral axonal injury, since the distribution and temporal changes of substance P were similar to those found in mammals (AU)
Axotomy increases NADPH-diaphorase activity in the dorsal root ganglia and lumbar spinal cord of the turtle Trachemys dorbigni by W. A Partata( )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Seven days after transection of the sciatic nerve NADPH-diaphorase activity increased in the small and medium neurons of the dorsal root ganglia of the turtle. However, this increase was observed only in medium neurons for up to 90 days. At this time a bilateral increase of NADPH-diaphorase staining was observed in all areas and neuronal types of the dorsal horn, and in positive motoneurons in the lumbar spinal cord, ipsilateral to the lesion. A similar increase was also demonstrable in spinal glial and endothelial cells. These findings are discussed in relation to the role of nitric oxide in hyperalgesia and neuronal regeneration or degeneration. (Au)
Pollen grains of plant of the cerrado - XI. Apocynaceae by Miguel A. L Marques( )

1 edition published in 1966 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Glycemia and immunohistochemical changes in the endocrine pancreas of the turtle Chrysemys dorbigni treated with streptozotocin by W. W Muniz( )

1 edition published in 1989 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The diabetogenic action of streptozotocin (SZ) was inbestigated in the turtle Chrysemys dorbigni after a 1-or 14-day fast. SZ (130 or 250 mg/Kg) was inected intravenously, and blood glucose and plasma insulin were measured. Pancreatic endocrine cells were stained immunohistochemically by the immunoperoxidase avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex method. Only 14% of the SZ-treated turtles showed hyperglycemia. Prolonged fasting did not increase the percentage of hyperglycemic animals. In control turtles, insulin (̄-, glucagon (alfa)-and somatostatin (delta)-immunoreactive cells were detected in increasing order of frequency. The qualitative changes seen in cells from the hyperglycemic SZ-treated turtles were more evident in ̄and delta cells (AU)

Immunohistochemical localization of insulin-like materials in antral gastric mucosa and intestinal epithelial cells of the turtles Chrysemys dorbigni and Phrynopshilarii by W. W Muniz( )

1 edition published in 1991 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Immunoreactive insulinwas demonstrated immunohistochemically with antibodies to human and porcine insulin by the avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex method in open-type gastrointestinal cells from sections of the antral stomach and of the upper, midle and lower intestine of the turtles Chrysemys dorbigni and Phrynops hilarii. In both species the concentration of cells positive for insulin-like material was higher in the gastric antrummthan in the gut. The localization of insulin-like material in gastrointestinal mucosal cells of turtles is an unusual finding among vertebrates, because the insulin-containing cells migrate from the mucosal epithelium of the intestine early in vertebrate evolution to the acinar pancreas. The chemical nature of the gastrointestinal insulin-like material and its physiological role remainm to be determined

Negociação na rede de poder na cadeia vitivinícola brasileira o caso do vinho tinto de mesa a granel by Miguel A. L Marques( )

1 edition published in 2006 in Portuguese and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
