In the autumn of 1944, the Japanese military had collapsed into an overwhelmingly disadvantageous battle-situation in the Pacific War. Under the proposal of Vice Admiral Takijiro Onishi, kamikaze unit were formed comprising fighter aircraft loaded with 250 kilogram bombs that would conduct suicidal ramming attacks on enemy ships. In 1945, in order to resolutely defend Okinawa to the last, Chiran Airport in Kagoshima, prefecture was rapidly converted to an army kamikaze. It was the time for Second Lieutenant Bando, Tabata and Nakanishi to take part in the Battle. The unit members each solemnly spent their last night of their lives, and 439 young men would depart for a never return mission in the next dawn
