The discovery of anti-matter : the autobiography of Carl David Anderson, the youngest man to win the Nobel prize by Carl D Anderson ( )
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In 1936, at age 31, Carl David Anderson became the second youngest Nobel laureate for his discovery of antimatter when he observed positrons in a cloud chamber. He is responsible for developing rocket power weapons that were used in World War II. He was born in New York City in 1905 and was educated in Los Angeles. He served for many years as a physics professor at California Institute of Technology. Prior to Oppenheimer, Anderson was offered the job of heading the Los Alamos atomic bomb program but could not assume the role because of family obligations. He was a pioneer in studying cosmic rays

The positive electron by Carl D Anderson ( Book )
2 editions published in 1933 in Palauan and English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
By 1933 Anderson had looked at 1300 photographs of cosmic ray tracks of which 15 were of positive tracks that could not have a mass as great as that of a proton. He found that they occur in groups of other tracks so were secondary particles and appeared to have the same charge as a proton and a mass less than 20 times the mass of an electron. Dirac's theory of the electron played little part in the initial interpretation of the discovery of what Anderson called positrons. This was a serendipitous discovery not led by theory
The production and properties of positrons : Nobel lecture presented before the Swedish Royal Academy of Science at Stockholm, December 12, 1936 by Carl D Anderson ( Book )

(NO TITLE) ( Book )
1 edition published in 1964 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
Research was concerned with: (1) A continuation of the study of high energy cosmic-ray reactions by means of cloud chambers. The purpose of this project is to work in the high energy range not yet possible with machines. (2) A study of the behavior of cosmic rays as a function of solar activity. This is a continuation of the balloon program started in 1951. (3) In 1957 activities under this contract were expanded to include work of Professor R.B. Leighton on the properties of the photosphere of the sun. (Author)

1 edition published in 1936 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
"Youthful Dr. Carl D. Anderson, of California Technology Institute, in Pasadena, explains mysterious discovery that won him Nobel Prize for physics"--Hearst synopsis sheet. Both Anderson and Dr. Robert Millikan are shown inside the "portable machine" used to discover the positron. When asked to explain his discovery, Anderson says: "A positron, or positive electron, is an identical twin of the negative electron that we are all so familiar with. Both the positive electron and the negative electron are fundamental building blocks of the universe." After this explanation, the commentator says sarcastically, "Thank you, Dr., that makes it very clear."
