Aufgrund der Sternenkonstellation erkennt Rabbi Löw, daß den Juden in Prag Unheil droht. Kurz darauf wird ihm mitgeteilt, daß alle Juden auf Geheiß des Kaisers die Stadt verlassen müssen. In seiner Not formt Rabbi Löw mit seinem Famulus einen Golem, der seine Glaubensbrüder beschützen soll. Doch am kaiserlichen Hof erntet der Golem anfangs nur Spott. Erst als er dem Kaiser das Leben rettet, hebt dieser seinen Ausweisungsbefehl auf. Doch der Golem läuft plötzlich Amok
