3:10 to Yuma( Visual )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 260 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this beautifully shot and acted, psychologically complex western, Van Heflin is a mild-mannered cattle rancher who takes on the task of shepherding a captured outlaw, played with cucumber-cool charisma by Glenn Ford, to the train that will take him to prison. This apparently simple plan turns into a nerve-racking cat-and-mouse game that will test each man's particular brand of honor
I shot Jesse James by Samuel Fuller( Visual )

3 editions published between 1949 and 2007 in English and held by 225 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Fuller's first film bears only a marginal relationship to the Western genre. It is a harsh melodrama, a stylistic tour-de-force which, in the words of Phil Hardy, 'transforms the (James) legend into a tragedy of misplaced love'. Bob Ford, in what amounts to a fratricidal murder, kills Jesse to escape outlawry and become respectable enough to marry, only to have his childhood sweetheart reject him for what he has done. Although the use of jarring closeups might superficially suggest that Fuller is striving to get 'inside' Bob Ford, the film (as in Forty Guns) is more of a mindscape of tensions between elemental emotions than a psychological study
