"The Slánský trial (officially Proces s protistátním spikleneckým centrem Rudolfa Slánského meaning "Trial of anti-state conspiracy centered around Rudolf Slánský") was a show trial against elements of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) who were thought to have adopted the line of the maverick Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito.[1] On 20 November 1952, Rudolf Slánský, General Secretary of the KSČ, and 13 other Communist leaders or bureaucrats, 11 of them Jews, were accused of participating in a Trotskyite-Titoite-Zionist conspiracy and convicted: 11 were executed and three sentenced to life imprisonment."--Wikipedia

Eleven of the fourteen defendants were Jews, and the trial was accompanied by antisemitic and anti-Zionist propaganda. London was sentenced to life imprisonment, but was rehabilitated in 1956; most of the defendants were executed

The camp was opened in April 1939 under the auspices of the French military for Spanish republicans seeking refuge. By May 1940 almost all had left the camp, which was transferred to the gendarmerie as an internment center for political detainees and undesirable immigrants - mainly German, Austrian, and East European Jewish women and children. After the German occupation, Gurs remained in the free zone under Vichy rule. In October 1940 it came under civilian administration and became a "semi-repressive" camp for dangerous elements (mainly Jewish refugees). Between 1942-43 thousands of Jews were deported from Gurs to Drancy and Auschwitz. States that the camp's administration was all French and the deportations were carried out by French gendarmerie. Emptied of Jews by November 1943, Gurs served as a camp for German prisoners and French collaborators after the liberation
