The form of content : the dance drama of Kurt Jooss by Suzanne K Walther( )

6 editions published between 1990 and 1995 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study shows how content determines form in the dance drama of Kurt Jooss (1901-1979), a German choreographer who made fundamental contributions to the art of theatrical dance. The analysis is centered on the four extant ballets of Kurt Jooss. The cultural context in which Jooss developed his ideas and created the four works is examined first. Then the ballets are analyzed in detail, following a model of "the choreographer's bourne" as developed by Dr. Patricia A. Rowe. A final assessment shows the ballets' unique contributions to the art of theatrical dance
