Hansa Towns by Helen Zimmern, originally published in 1891. The Hansa is a remarkably poorly covered area of history in the English language and Zimmern's narrative history is a good introduction to it. Zimmern breaks up her history into two phases - pre-13th century trading alliances that form the basis of the Hansa, and post-13th century where the history is slightly better recorded. The formation of Hanse or guilds was a relatively loose development and not one designed with any particular strategic ambition but merely as a way of better protecting personal trade interests in a dangerous world

20 editions published between 1909 and 2012 in English and held by 161 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Human, All-Too-Human (1878) is often considered the start of Friedrich Nietzsche's mature period. This complex work, composed of hundreds of aphorisms of varying length, explores many themes to which Nietzsche later returned and marks a significant departure from his previous thinking. Here Nietzsche breaks with his early allegiance in Arthur Schopenhauer and Richard Wagner, and establishes the overall framework of his later philosophy. In contrast to his previous disdam for science, now Nietzsche views science as key to undercutting traditional metaphysics. This he sees as a crucial step in the emergence of free spirits who will be the avant-grade of culture." "This is an essential work for anyone who wishes to understand Nietsche's incisive critique of such diverse aspects of Western culture and values as the idea of good and evil, the roles of women and children in society, and the concept of power and the state."--Jacket
