V poválečné Varšavě z r. 1947, proměněné v hromady ssutin, avšak krok za krokem uskutečňující své znovuzrození, žije pět chlapců, oloupených nacistickou okupací o své dětství a spořádané rodinné poměry.

A group of Zionist pioneers settles a barren area in Palestine and are building a well. Their efforts are accompanied by constant tribulations, suffering, and fever. A greedy Arab sheikh leads the Arabs to believe that the pioneers are responsible for the drought, which culminates in a violent attack. Woven into the plot are a love story between a Zionist pioneer and an Arab woman, a seduction scene, and documentary slices of Arab life from Mandatory Palestine. The summer of 1932 saw the completion of the shooting for Sabra, the first sound film in Palestine-Eretz Israel. The film, an initiative of Polish impresario Zeev Markevitch Morasha and Polish director Aleksander Ford, depicts the difficult reality of the Zionist settlers in their new country. Participants in the film included HaBima actors Hanna Rovina, Aharon Meskin, Raphael Klatchkin, Yehoshua Bertonoff, and Shimon Finkel. The soundtrack was recorded in Warsaw by actors from the Yiddish theater. The film was censored by the British for fear of it would incite violence. Now, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the shooting of the film, film director and curator Yaakov Gross presents a newly edited and digitally restored version of the film, in collaboration with the National Film Archive, Warsaw, the Israel Film Archive-Jerusalem Cinematheque, and the Steven Spielberg Jewish Film Archive.--Jerusalem Film Festival website (www.jff.org.il)
