Trade-induced investment-led growth by Richard E Baldwin( Book )
36 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 209 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Abstract: Many studies have found a positive correlation between trade and growth, but do not attempt to identify the economic mechanisms involved. This paper attempts to identify one of the mechanisms linking trade and growth. In particular, we present a novel theoretical model that establishes a link between trade liberalization and investment-led growth. Estimating equations are derived from the model and estimated with three stage least squares on a cross-country data sample. We find that domestic protection depresses investment and thereby slows growth. Foreign trade barriers also lower domestic investment, but the anti-investment effect is weaker and is less robust to sample and specification changes

Testing for a Common OECD Phillips Curve by Dave Turner( )
1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This paper reports estimates of a reduced form relationship explaining inflation in terms of the output gap and import price inflation for most OECD countries. Results are reported both for single equation estimation on a country-by-country basis and using a system estimation technique in order to impose common parameters across countries where such restrictions are consistent with the data. A striking feature of the results is that most of the countries accept a common sacrifice ratio
Trade, integration, and growth by Elena Seghezza( Book )
2 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The thesis is composed of four chapters. In the first chapter it analyses the links between trade and growth. It does so using a neoclassical model with intraindustry trade. The second chapter is an econometric analysis of the growth effects of trade liberalisation. It tests the channel trade effects investment and thereby growth. The third chapter provides a model to analyse the growth effects of a custom union. It shows that it is always beneficial, in terms of growth, to join a custom union. The last chapter analyses the effects of growth on the distribution of income. It shows that, if the labour market is imperfect, growth increases the labour share of income
Indipendenza delle banche centrali e coordinamento tra politica monetaria e politica fiscale by Giovanni Battista Pittaluga( )
2 editions published in 2004 in Italian and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In this perspective, AM and AF, although both independant, can give rise to repeated games and to forms of coordination, spontaneous or "forced". The latter can be realized in institutional moments of negotiation between AM and AF or in normative constraints to the behaviour of AM and AF."--Editor
Bretton Woods and the legalization of international monetary affairs by F Gazzo( )
1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The Bretton Woods Agreement once again enabled states to use an international money. The traditional interpretations of this Agreement emphasize the extreme discontinuity between the period after the Second World War and the interwar period. Some interpretations insist on the fact that after the Second World War, unlike what happened in the 1920s and 1930s, states continued to behave in a cooperative manner. Other interpretations ascribe the drawing up of the Bretton Woods Agreement to the presence of a hegemonic country. These interpretations neglect the fact that different types of money are associated with different ways of protecting money holders' claim. This causes these interpretations to emphasize only the discontinuity between the Gold Exchange Standard and the monetary system based on the Bretton Woods Agreements, and to miss the continuities."--Editor
Customs union and economic growth ( )
1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"The paper analyses the growth effects of a customs union. It starts by assuming an exogenous growth framework. In this context, it finds that joining a customs union leads to a higher level of capital stock and, in the transition period, to higher growth, if original trade barriers were high. Then the paper assumes an endogenous growth framework. In this context, it finds that joining a customs union can only be beneficial either in terms of capital stock or in terms of growth rate. The model conclusions are confirmed by the results of an econometric estimate of the growth effects of the European Union. These estimates suggest that European integration had an effect on investment above and beyond the amount achieved via tariffs."--Editor
