The human factor : the figure in contemporary sculpture by Hayward Gallery( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 282 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"'The Human Factor: the Figure in Contemporary Sculpture' brings together the work of 25 leading international artists, in whose practice the human form plays a central role. Over the past 25 years, artists have reinvented figurative sculpture by looking back to earlier movements in art history as well as imagery from contemporary culture. Setting up dialogues with modernist as well as classical and archaic models of art, these artists engage and confront the question of how we represent the 'human' today. Eschewing concerns related to psychological portraiture, these artists use the figure as a catalyst for evoking far-ranging content, including subjects spanning political violence and mortality to sexuality and voyeurism. A unique survey of figurative sculpture today, this highly illustrated volume features newly-commissioned essays by authors including Tate Britain Director, Penelope Curtis, art critic and writer Martin Herbert, Artangel co-director James Lingwood, art historian Lisa Lee and Hayward Gallery Director, and curator of the exhibition, Ralph Rugoff. Alongside full-colour images of the artists' works, the book also includes original and rarely-seen material documenting the creation of these fascinating works."--
Thomas Hirschhorn : Deleuze monument by Anna Dezeuze( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 109 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Thomas Hirschhorn's Deleuze monument was conceived for 'La beauté' in Avignon in 2000. It comprised four elements: a rock inscribed with a quotation, an altar, a monumental sculpture and a library including books by and about Deleuze. Located in the Cité Champfleury, outside Avignon's historical walls, Deleuze monument embodied Hirschhorn's desire to put his work 'in a difficult situation' between reality, politics and aesthetics, and marks a significant turning point in his approach to producing and maintaining public works"--Page 4 de la couverture

In 2013, Dia Art Foundation commissioned Thomas Hirschhorn to build Gramsci Monument, an excessive outdoor sculpture that measured 8,000 square feet and was located on the grounds of Forest Houses,in New York (Bronx). On display for 77 days, with daily and weekly events organized by the artist, Gramsci Monument concluded Hirschhorn’s series of “monuments” dedicated to philosophers, which began in 1999. Grounded in the love of Antonio Gramsci’s work and life, specifically his fundamental concept of the ‘organic intellectual,’ this publication takes the form of a manual that details the complexity of creating an art work in public space, bringing together contemporary scholarship alongside accounts from residents, participants, and visitors.00Exhibition: Dia Art Foundation, Forest Houses, New York City, USA (01.07.13 - 15.09.2013)

For Thomas Hirschhorn video has always been a favored medium of expression. Since the early 1990s, he has created single video works, often using the camera to record actions, as well as making 'integrated videos,' which are part of specific, three-dimensional sculptural works. His video oeuvre demonstrates the economy of means, the formal energy, and the direct strength, as well as the political and aesthetic conscience he has shown for 25 years in his work

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"For the artist Thomas Hirschhorn, writing is a crucial tool at every stage of his artistic practice. From the first sketch of an idea to appeals to potential collaborators, from detailed documentation of projects to post-disassembly analysis, Hirschhorn's writings mark the trajectories of his work. This volume collects Hirschhorn's widely scattered texts, presenting many in English for the first time. In these writings, Hirschhorn discusses the full range of his art, from works on paper to the massive Presence and Production projects in public spaces. "Statements and Letters" address broad themes of aesthetic philosophy, politics, and art historical commitments. "Projects" consider specific artworks or exhibitions. "Interviews" capture the artist in dialogue with Benjamin Buchloh, Jacques Ranciere, and others. 'Critical laboratory' also reproduces, in color, '33 Ausstellungen im öffentlichen Raum 1998-1989', an out-of-print catalog of Hirschhorn's earliest works in public space"--Jacket
