Il y rencontre le reptile, qui se saisit de son petit bout de nez en lui disant qu'il a bien envie de le dévorer. S'efforçant d'échapper à son prédateur, l'éléphanteau voit bientôt son minuscule appendice se transformer en une énorme trompe, dont il ne tardera pas à découvrir les avantages... -- Un hymne rafraîchissant à la curiosité, dont le texte très abondant est magnifiquement appuyé par des dessins dominés par des verts tendres donnant vie, avec un réalisme teinté de naïveté, aux paysages verdoyants de la jungle.
