The empty evenings seem to weave together, a decadent rhythm punctuated only by the regret of the following morning. Marcello is consumed by self-doubt and unable to enjoy the success he has, and so stumbles on, dreaming of attaining the elusive sweet life

In perhaps Fellini's most famous film, Marcello Mastroianni plays a gossip columnist who aspires to be a more serious writer but knows he never will be because he is fascinated by the decadent hedonistic pursuits which are seemingly everywhere. A spectacular morality play, the Vatican was appalled by the film but the public adored it, relishing images such as the famous scene of Mastroianni and Ekberg frolicking in the Trevi fountain. Winner of the Cannes Palme d'Or in 1960, "La Dolce Vita" was also nominated for 4 Oscars including Best Screenplay and Best Director
