Robert Kramer retourne au Vietnam presque trente ans après "Peoples War", dans lequel prenait corps son engagement contre la politique américaine et la guerre, et six ans après "Point de départ" ("le Vietnam à la croisée des chemins", cf. le scénario du film in "Trafic" n 1). En 1998, Kramer ne nous laisse voir que chantiers et buildings en devenir ; il livre un film faussement apaisé, discrètement combatif. "SayKomSa" ... Un an avant sa mort, Kramer était-il donc résigné à force dy voir trop clair? Ce film nous dit tout autre chose : "cest comme ça", dans sa nouvelle orthographe, serait bien plutôt le pacte renouvelé dun cinéaste soucieux de ne pas céder dun pouce face à lhabillage médiatique du réel. Le constat auquel invite la formule est donc dabord question de méthode. On note par exemple combien les voix ("off" et "in") se font alors discrètes, au bénéfice dune observation brute, sans détour, de ce Vietnam en pleine mutation. Après lavoir vécu comme un terrain idéologique, le cinéaste a-t-il là le désir daborder ce pays avec un regard plus léger, à même de montrer paysages et habitants dans leur virginité? Fausse route : "SayKomSa" signifie avant tout que les images, les hommes et les lieux sont lourds dune histoire que le cinéma se doit de rappeler toujours, contre loubli et la résignation, justeme
