"Antiquus error: was the term that Christians [sic] polemicists used to describe ancient polytheism in its various forms. The book collects thirty papers published between 1996 and 2007 and five unpublished studies. Five sections are devoted, successively, to the historians of the fourth century AD: to Jerome as an historian, to the work of Ammianus Marcellinus, to the Historia Augusta and the poets Claudian and Rutilius Namatianus. The book focuses on the opposition between pagans and Christians from 370 to 417. The discovery by Stéphane Ratti of the identity of the anonymous author of the Historia Augusta leads to a reevaluation of the opposition undertaken by the ancient religion's followers against the new ideas and the emperor Theodosius"--Page 4 of cover

LES LIVRES SEPT A NEUF DU BREVIAIRE D'EUTROPE : INTRODUCTION, TRADUCTION ET COMMENTAIRE by Stéphane Ratti( Book )
3 editions published in 1994 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
LE BREVIAIRE D'EUROPE, RESUME DE L'HISTOIRE ROMAINE DE ROMULUS A JOVIEN (TROIS CENT SOIXANTE-QUATRE AP. J-C.), A ETE PUBLIE EN TROIS CENT SOIXANTE-DIX APRES J-C. LA THESE COMPORTE UNE INTRODUCTION GENERALE AUX LIVRES SEPT A DIX, QUI CONTIENNENT LES BIOGRAPHIES DES CINQUANTE TROIS EMPEREURS D'AUGUSTE A DIOCLETION ET MAXIMIEN, UNE TRADUCTION NOUVELLE DES QUATRE LIVRES ET UN COMMENTAIRE DES LIVRES SET A NEUF. UNE JUSTE APPRECIATIONDE L'ORIGINALITE DE CES PAGES NECESSITAIT DE DETERMINER CE QUI DANS LE BREVIAIRE APPARTENAIT EN PROPRE A EUTROPE ET CE QUI AVAIT PU ETRE EMPRUNTE AUX AUTEURS ANTERIEURS (SUETONE, PERIOCHAE DE TITELIVE, AURELIUS VICTOR ENTRE AUTRES). L'IDENTIFICATION DES SOURCES DU BREVIAIRE ACCORDE UN LARGE CREDIT A L'HYPOTHESE DE LA KAISERGESCHICHTE D'ENMANN QU'EUTROPE AURAIT UTILISEE ET CONDUIT A EXAMINER LES RAPPORTS ENTRE LA BIOGRAPHIE D'AUGUSTE ET UN TEXTE QU'ON N'AVAIT JAMAIS RAPPROCHE DU BREVIAIRE, LES RES GESTAE DIUI AUGUSTI. TOUTEFOIS LA QUELLENFORSCHUNG DOIT ETRE MISE AU SERVICE DE L'EVALUATION RAISONNEE ET RIGOUREUSE DE L'ORIGINALITE DU BREVIAIRE PAR RAPPORT A SES DEVANCIERS AFIN DE METTRE EN EVIDENCE LES INTENTIONS POLITIQUES D'EUTROPE. SONT EXAMINEES EGALEMENT LES DETTES A L'EGARD DU BREVIAIRE DES AUTEURS QUI, A LA CHARNIERE DES QUATRIEME ET CINQUIEME SIECLES, L'ONT LU : FESTUS, L'HISTOIRE AUGUSTE ET OROSE NOTAMMENT EUTROPE, EN DEFINITIVE, N'EST PAS L'AUTEUR SCOLAIRE D'UN SIMPLE RESUME, MAIS LE BREVIAIRE , DESTINE D'ABORD A ETRE LU PAR L'EMPEREUR VALENS QUI EN AVAIT COMMANDE LA REDACTION, CONTIENT UN CERTAIN NOMBRE D'IDEES PERSONNELLES DE L'ABREVIATEUR SUR LA DEFINITION DE L'OPTIMUS PRINCEPS. EUTROPE, HAUT FONCTIONNAIRE DE L'EMPIRE, ECRIT UNE HISTOIRE DE COLORATION PROSENATORIALE DONT LES CONCEPTS POLITIQUES LES PLUS IMPORTANTS SONT FOURNIS PAR LE SENS SOUVENT ORIGINAL QU'IL DONNE A L'IDEOLOGIE DU PROUATUS, A LA CIUILITAS ET A LA FELICITAS. LES MODELES A CET EGARD SONT AUGUSTE ET TRAJAN, OU ENCORE LES EMPEREURS DU TROISIEME SIECLE CHOISIS CONSENSU SENATUS MILITUMQUE. LE BREVIAIRE PROPOSE DONC UNE IMAGE COHERENTE ET EN PARTIE ORIGINALE DU PRINCE IDEAL
