Josiah Burnett of Eagle Creek, Oregon, worked in mining, survey work, and farming. The collection (1852-1874) consists of correspondence regarding family, mining, and politics, and also contains articles of incorporation of Oregon businesses. There are eighty-four letters related to family news, mining work in Oregon, and politics in Oregon and California, including: eighteen from Josiah A. Burnett to his wife, Lucy, and others; twenty-three from Andrew J. Burnett (brother) to J.A. and John S. Burnett; fourteen from John S. Burnett (father) to J.A. and Andrew J. Burnett; five from G.G. Foster to Lucy Burnett and Josiah Burnett; two from William Thompson; two from James K. Kelly; and single letters from Joseph Lane and John H. Mitchell. Letters describe survey work near The Dalles in 1860, and in the John Day country, 1873; mining and Democratic politics in California, 1860-1861; mining in the Salmon River country, 1861-1862; and politics in Jackson County, Oregon, 1860-1875. The collection also contains articles of incorporation of the Eagle Creek Clay Wagon Road and Bridge Co. and the Salmon Creek Wagon Road Co., both 1862. Frederick Wallace Wilson (1872-1955) was an attorney and Circuit Court Judge in The Dalles, Oregon. The papers include correspondence, a letterpress copybook, legal papers, a manuscript, photographs, addresses and publications by Wilson as well as personal correspondence of Joseph G. Wilson, and certificates of Elizabeth Millar Wilson. The Frederick Wallace Wilson correspondence is from 1894-1953 and includes two reminiscent letters from James K. Kelly (1894; 1919). There are also legal papers, addresses, a draft of Wilson's pamphlet, "Lucre of the River" (The Dalles, 1938), and a letterpress copybook of correspondence, contacts and financial transactions. A manuscript titled "History of Presbyterian Churches of Albany" (Oregon) by Wilson is also included in the collection. The Joseph G. Wilson correspondence is from 1852-1873. There is also a folder of Elizabeth Millar Wilson material consisting of postmistress certificates. Photographs include prints and negatives of Columbia River steamboats, the Cascades before Bonneville Dam was built, Portland buildings including schools and churches, downtown Portland and Portland harbor, and a series of photographs that document a celebration in Molalla, Or., of the opening of the Portland, Eugene, and Eastern Railroad
