Der Angriff der Gegenwart auf die übrige Zeit & Vermischte Nachrichten by Alexander Kluge( Visual )

2 editions published between 2007 and 2010 in German and held by 30 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Der Angriff der Gegenwart auf die übrige Zeit: In this "film essay," director Alexander Kluge examines the nature of technology and (urban) identity, the intersection of film and new media in the creation of art, and the delusive quest to manipulate time. There are two different stories with both fictional and documentary aspects. In one story, a foster parent cares for a traumatized young girl who is now an orphan after witnessing a car crash that killed both her parents. After the foster-parent does the right thing and takes the girl to her aunt --her court-appointed guardian -- she is shocked to see that neither the wealthy aunt nor her servants are very interested in the girl. An unusual decision follows. In the other story, a director goes blind in the middle of a film project but has to be kept on because of his contract. This situation leads to some philosophizing on the nature of film and art in the modern world

Die Artisten in der Zirkuskuppel : ratlos( Visual )

7 editions published between 1968 and 2007 in German and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Leni Peickert, daughter of a circus performer who died trying to perfect his art, is determined to create a circus worthy of her father's memory. Leni's story is a vehicle for presenting the internal (artistic) dilemmas and the external (financial and political) obstacles confronting the contemporary artist - the story of the New German Cinema in the sixties. Kluge's theme of the past and our memory of it is also present. The narrative is fragmented by apparent digressions and opaque texts leaving the viewer groping for connection. It seems that Kluge is seeking to suggest the disorientation of the artist in the face of pressures and contradictions by forcing the viewer to experience disorientation
