Gạo Rang Riz grillé ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2001 in French and held by 60 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The story of the North Vietnamese combat cameramen who filmed the Indo-Chinese and Vietnam Wars, and founded Vietnamese cinema. Mai Loc and Khoung Mē, two veterans from the French war, tell of acquiring the first cameras and instruction manuals. Mr. Xuong, a traveling projectionist during both wars, recalls projecting films along the 17th Parallel, and remembers how the public reacted to the films. Tran Van Thuy and Le Man Thich screen some of the material that they shot. They describe the hardship and fear they faced in combat and during American bombings. For all of them, "to make propaganda was obvious." But they also discuss their regrets. Thuy says "If we had had a more critical historical awareness, we could have left much better images." Their films give the impression that everything was easy. They didn't film enough of the hard daily life, and regret the many "heroic deaths that were not filmed."

In this docudrama, filmmaker Robert Kramer, who has had long periods of residence in Europe, and an expatriate doctor friend of his, set out to rediscover their native country by traveling from Maine to Florida on old US Route 1, a major north-south route built before the interstate highway system was constructed. The doctor has just returned from a long stint of public service in Africa, and is undecided about what to do with his life. Despite an apparently determined attempt to dig into the seedy side of American life, the travelers run into one inspirational scene after another, and run into such luminaries as Pat Robertson and Jesse Jackson on the presidential campaign trail, and performers like Ossie Davis and Helen Hayes
Salata baladi Salade maison ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2008 in Arabic and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Award-winning, Egyptian filmmaker Nadia Kamel's heritage is a complex blend of religions and cultures. Her mother is a half jewish, half Italian Christian who converted to Islam when she married Nadia's half Turkish, half Ukrainian father. Prompted by the realization that her 10-year-old nephew Nabeel is growing up in an Egyptian society where talk of culture clashes is all too common, she decides to let her mother, Mary Rosenthal, share their diverse family history. But, as she and mary weave their way through the family's fairytales, they bump into the silence around old prejudices concerning the estranged Egyptian Jewish branch of their family living in Israel since 1948. Inspired to further challenge the boundaries between cultures, religions and nationalities that are used to divide us, Kamel travels, along with her mother and nephew, to Israel and Italy and confronts fears and prejudices along the way."--Container
